Recycle the second fridge

Did you know?

Switch off the old second fridge

Keeping a second fridge running in your laundry or garage may seem like a handy convenience, but if it was made more than ten years ago, it's likely to be producing thousands of balloons of carbon pollution at an alarming rate and costing you a fortune in the process.

Big savings

Recycling your second fridge can slice $265 a year off your power bill - and you'll reduce your annual household carbon pollution by more than 1,000kg.

If you live in Sydney, Wollongong / Illawarra, Blue Mountains, parts of the Hunter (Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland), Central Coast or Shellharbour you may be eligible for the $35 fridge buyback scheme supported by the NSW government's Climate Change Fund and local councils.

Do you have to have two?

If you have to run two refrigerators, try to only use your second fridge when you really need it, like in summer.

To keep costs down when running two fridges follow the tips on helping your fridge run on less power, or if you are buying a new fridge, choose an energy efficient model.
