It's easy to save electricity and reduce carbon pollution

Whether you work for a local, state or federal government agency, there are simple ways that you can save power and cut down on carbon pollution at work.

Everything we do to reduce power will make a difference. A few tips to get you started:

  • switch to energy efficient light globes wherever possible
  • make sure all the lights are turned off after hours
  • switch computers, monitors, audio visual systems and other office equipment off at the power point, instead of leaving them on standby
  • look for the energy rating label when purchasing new appliances and equipment – the more stars the better
  • turn off the air conditioner and use a fan wherever possible
  • keep temperatures at a comfortable 18-21°C in winter instead of over heating
  • install insulation and draught proofing to make sure you don't waste power through unnecessary heat loss
