Community action and programs

Communities play an essential and active part in promoting sustainability and reducing carbon pollution.

Helping communities save

There are programs already in place to help public facilities, schools, community organisations and support groups lower their environmental impact. Such programs can fund a wide range of energy saving initiatives.

Community Programs:

  • Public Facilities Program – delivers water, energy and greenhouse gas savings to community groups, local councils and schools. It also supports projects that showcase energy efficiency to the wider community.
  • Schools Energy Efficiency Program – aims to help reduce carbon pollution from NSW public high schools.
  • Energy Savings Action Plan – analyses energy use and helps public facilities and councils implement energy saving measures.

The NSW Climate Change Fund supports each of these programs.

Helping communities learn, share and grow

In addition to providing support for community groups and organisations to save power, a program 'Energymark' was also used to foster and encourage discussion around energy and climate change issues in the broader NSW community.

Energymark is an on-the-ground education initiative providing individuals the opportunity to lead discussions at work, home and in their community – with support and education resources provided by our partner CSIRO.
